Well, I don't have a definite name for it, so I named it Random Zombie Story or RZS in short for the moment. But as I wrote on, the name felt so catchy and so, there you go, Random Zombie Story.

Oh and before you read it, let me clear up a few things:

RIIIIIINNNNNNGGGGG!!!

The sound of the school bell rung echoed throughout the entire school as the students of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Mutiara dashed madly out from their classes. Cheering and shouting loudly, they form a crowd that gathered at the staircase, the students were eager to head home and begin their holiday activities.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Mutiara, a Malaysian high-school located in what was once a jungle, now a school in the middle of it. The colors on the school’s wall clearly tell that the school was still new. The school was founded at the year of 2005, there was five buildings located in the school and was joined together that slightly resembles the letter ‘e’.

Each block was named alphabetically. The office, staff room, and library are all located in block A while sports equipments, stock-room and a clinic are located in block B. A room for Muslims to research about their religion is located in block C and all technologies and home economics related materials are located in block D. Block E, which concentrates most on science, are located far off from the four buildings. Each block, except for block E, has at least three floors and 10 classes in each floor. Block E has four floors and does not have any classes in the building.

The teachers in the school hardly use the science lab due to some reasons and because of that; it has been abandoned for quite some time. Students who have a tendency to skip classes usually use the block as a hideout place to smoke, assault, vandalism and such. The higher-ups officially established an order to lock the building down to prevent any intruding.

“It’s finally the school holiday!” One of the students shouted, receiving deafening cheers from other students.

Yes, it’s November 11th, the start of a two months break for every students in Malaysia. After endless efforts of studying, the students finally gets their reward; a two months holidays. Among the running students, a young girl walked slowly towards the school canteen.

Young Chen Li Kei wandered around the school as she tries to find some friends to chat with. She has a short black hair and wears glasses. Li Kei is a 14 year old girl with a short body and a back bone problem since last year. This is one of the many reasons why she was treated perfectly by both the teachers and prefects.

But the truth is that Li Kei’s backbone problem already healed since the starting of year 2007. She had been hiding the truth from everyone so that she can get the special attention from everyone. Rumors also said that she loves to bad-mouth about people and invade their private life. This is why more and more people started to bare hatred towards her.

Spotting a group of girls chatting happily at a corner, Li Kei decided to join their chat and skipped childishly towards them.

“Hi everyone, what are you talking about?” She asked the group of girls with a cheerful smile implanted on her smooth feature. The girls looked at her and were disgusted when they knew her identity.

“Go away! We don’t want to talk with you!” One of the girls replied rudely, crushing Li Kei’s hope to gain new friends. Li Kei brought her head down and walked away while listening to the group of girls continuing their chats.

Wandering around in sheer disappointment, Li Kei didn’t notice that she was directly in front of a science lab located in block E. Not caring about anything else, even the laws that states the students are forbidden to enter the block, she entered one of the labs that had its doors opened.

The science lab was much bigger if compared to a class. There were at least an amount of eight big tables that could support to eight persons per table. A sink and two water pipes were installed in the middle of each table for the students to wash their hands in a case when they accidentally poured corrosive substance on their hands and such.

She looked around the lab and walked over to a table, not wondering why the door was open the first place when the building has been locked down. She then sat on a chair and buried her head under her arms to hide her crying self, thinking that there was no one around to see her tearing self.

Why? Why do they always treat me like this? They’re all meanies! They all very bad! She thought to herself as more and more tears rolled down her cheek. She then wiped her tears roughly and continued crying.

“Li Kei, what are you doing here?” The sound of a boy came from the entrance of the science lab; Li Kei did not bother to see who the boy was. The boy was just about her height, came into the science lab to tend his crying friend not worrying at the fact that how his friend managed to enter an opened lab in a building that was supposed to be locked down.

“Nothing Wilson,” She replied while wiping away droplets of tears from her eyes abruptly.

Wilson Foo is also a 14 year old teenager with the same attitude as Li Kei, except for the fact that Li Kei has a backbone problem while Wilson does not. However, most people would think that both of them are siblings due to their faces that looked somehow similar. A running gag in school said that they were both long lost twins when they were born.

“Oh really,” He said and took a chair and sat beside her. “You’re hiding something from me, aren’t you?” He tried to sound more softly.

Li Kei couldn’t take it anymore, Wilson was right. Unable to control her emotions, she burst into tears. She then tried to say something, but her voice was muffled and hard to hear. However, Wilson could make out those words that Li Kei said.

“Everyone very bad, they don’t like to be friends with me. I hate them!”

Wilson understands her pain for he too had undergone similar situations as her. He then placed a comforting hand onto Li Kei’s shoulder and gently strokes it down repeatedly.

Releasing her anger, Li Kei swung her hand towards a water pipe and both her and Wilson thought she had broken the pipe when it bents over. They stood corrected when the pipe slid down in a secret compartment and the table Li Kei and Wilson were at suddenly began sliding aside. A secret passageway was reveal underneath the table.

“What the…” Wilson said with astonishment. He didn’t know that the school had such a secret room. Now he knew why the higher-ups were so worried about students skipping class and loitered around block E.

Li Kei walked beside Wilson and grabbed his arm. “Let’s go in and see,” Wilson hesitated at first but curiosity had taken the best of him, he nodded. With that, they both walked down the stairs.

As soon as they reached down to the bottom of the room, they were amazed at what was in front of their eyes. High-tech gadgets and computers filled the wide white room, monitors filled the walls. It was like a futuristic cyber-café in there safe for the fact that is was creepy. Wilson and Li Kei walked to the end of the room where a metal door was located. Out of curiosity, they walked towards the door. The metallic door beeped before it slid open, revealing another similar white room.

Unlike the first room, this room was filled with filled with top-scientist-type chemistry set. Various chemicals, test tubes, and never before seen plants were present in the room, it was like a mini garden-science lab. A number of CCTV was installed throughout the whole room.

At the end of the room was another electronic metal door. This door, however, required a fingerprint to open that door as a fingerprint scanner was present at the side of the door. The security measurements showed an importance towards the room.

What is this room? Wilson thought as he gazed at a plant inside a giant test tube. “Li Kei…” He trailed and turned around only to find Li Kei playfully mixing two chemicals together into a beaker filled with boiling water above a Bunsen burner. “What are you doing?” He rushed beside her and looked at what she was doing. If anyone found out about what they did, they are in deep trouble, which was for sure.

Li Kei took a red and blue chemical and mixed them into the beaker, forming a purple solution. “I don’t know. But isn’t this fun?” She said happily and brought up the beaker that was filled with the purple solution.

‘Stupidity’ was the line that immediately popped in Wilson’s head when he realized that Li Kei was holding a BOILING beaker. He tried to warn her but it was too late, the heat from the beaker had already burnt Li Kei’s hand.

“Ah!” She yelped and dropped the purple-solution beaker onto the ground. Weirdly, the purple-solution immediately evaporated into smokes as it filled the room with it, causing Wilson and Li Kei to cough violently.

“Ugh, what is this?” Wilson said and continued coughing.

“I don’t know, let’s get out of here!” Li Kei covered her mouth and rushed towards the stairs that headed back to the science lab only to knock into someone. That someone wasn’t Wilson. No, it was someone else, someone bigger.

“Hey!”

Then, the only thing she and Wilson remembered was pitch black.

“KRRIIIIIIINNNNNNGGGG!!~”

The sound of the alarm clock filled the room of a two and a half storey house followed by a hand reaching for the clock and threw it towards the wall, smashing it into millions of pieces. Then, a figure slowly got up from his bed with a groan and placed two legs onto the pavement.

“Awh, man, not again,” A boy mumbled lazily as he rubbed his eyes and looked at the smashed alarm clock. “Guess I’ll have to buy another new clock,” He then stood up and walked lazily towards the bath room.

He turned on the warm-water faucet on his sink and the heat from the water caused the mirror to blur. He took a handful of warm water and splashed it in his face. After yelping about the heat, he switched the faucet to the cold-water and splashed his face again, this time waking him up. This was how he’d wake himself up every morning.

The boy looked at the blur mirror and wiped the mist on the mirror with his hand. Looking into the mirror, he could see the reflection of a Chinese boy in his teen hood, probably 15, slightly fat and acceptably strong. His black curly hair fell downwards, obscuring half of his black eyes.

Taking off his clothes, the boy then took a shower and then brushed his teeth, a usual day-to-day morning routine.

After his shower, he walked out of the bathroom and looked at the pieces of his alarm clock. Exhaling heavily, he pushed the pieces aside with his leg and left it there. Kyle Sui had thrown approximately 12 alarm clocks in this month so far. He claimed it to be a force of habit. Whether it’s a good habit or not, his allowance is at stake if this continues on.

The boy then walked straight towards his closet and picked up some clothes which consist of a white T-shirt, a school uniform, a green ‘Dark Olive’ pants and a pair of socks. All the attires he wore turned Kyle’s appearance to an ordinary student.

After putting them on, Kyle walked over to the door where a switch was located beside it and flicked the switch. Upon that, the room was consumed by a series of blinding light. Kyle’s room is a pretty spacey room which looked like an upside down letter ‘L’ if viewed with a bird’s-eyes view. His room consists of a bed, a closet, a desk by the window, with books scattered around messily and a computer. Finally, his room also has a bathroom.

Looking into the mirror installed in his closet, Kyle took a comb and combed his hair to the side, with a little part of it dropped to the brows. He then walk towards the desk and took his Nokia N-80 cell phone and checked for any messages and the time. The slide-phone showed that it is 6.30 a.m. 17th of November, a two-month school holiday for students in Malaysia. After that, he put his phone into his pocket.

The reason why Kyle dressed up like a student even though it was a school holiday is because he and his friends had made an appointment to meet up at the school today for a Kelab Pencegahan Jenayah, or shortly known as KPJ, club meeting. He happened to be one of the supervisors for that club.

Kyle then walked towards a hanger by the door and pulled out a belt and straps it on. He then walk over to his two person bed and pulled out a retractable baton with its sheath from the pillow. He had brought that baton not long ago for self-defense purposes.

After attaching his sheath onto his belt, Kyle then walk out of his room and went down to the living room. Unlike the bed room, the living room is far much more spacey with pearl-white tiles and pearl-white painted walls. Not bothering to check the room around, the boy grabbed his wallet and his keys on the coffee table. A cup of fresh coffee was present on the table with a note paper underneath it.

He didn’t bother about the note and took the coffee and consumed it only to spit it back out when the coffee was proven too bitter for him. Kyle then noticed the paper and read it.

‘Still will not forgive you until you have apologized for what you have done’

Then, he knew that it was his mother’s handwriting and she made the coffee. Usually, his coffee would contain milk and sugar in it, today, it contained none. Guess they’re still angry at me… he thought to himself and placed the note back underneath the coffee and headed to the car porch.

Kyle’s family had two Honda cars at the porch, a Honda Stream and a Honda City, but only the Honda City was there. Kyle wasn’t surprised at the absence of the Honda Stream. He remembered that his family had planned to visit their hometown. His family, out of anger, must’ve left Kyle behind and went back to the hometown in another state.

The automated gate opened as Kyle pushed a button from a small remote found at the keys. Kyle then walks out of the porch and the gate closed itself at the click of a button. The gentle morning breeze from the mountains greeted him as he walked along the empty streets. His house was located on a hilltop. The dogs in the neighbor houses were still sleeping soundly and Kyle was glad, otherwise, their barks could wake the whole neighborhood up.

The meeting was supposedly held at about 7.30 a.m. The journey to the school by foot takes about 30 minutes, so by the time he reaches to the school; it would be roughly around 7 a.m. So there would be 30 minutes more to spare. ‘It’s always best to wait rather than be waited’, his mom once taught, though Kyle chose to ignore it, his inner-self had adapted to the teaching.

After a few minutes of walking, Kyle had already reached bottom hill. Cars were beginning to be visible as they headed for their jobs. The boy walked along the busy streets and enters a nearby 7-11 convenience shop. He would then buy a cream-bread and a can of Nescafe for breakfast. Kyle needs not to eat much for breakfast.

After the quick meal, Kyle walked over to the newspaper booth and bought himself one. With that, he continued on his journey towards the school.

To ease the boredom, the boy took out the newspaper he bought back at the shop and read it. For 5 years of reading newspaper, Kyle would always buy a whole newspaper just for the Sports section. He’s not interested with the news and don’t give a damn about what’s going on around the world. But today, the front page title and the photo attached on it caught the boy’s attention.

THE DEAD WALKS!! Followed by a disturbing picture that sends chills down to Kyle’s spine, it was a picture of a man with blood stains all over his body. But before Kyle could read the news any further, a honk snapped him out of his reading and quickly realized that he was standing mere inches away from a car that was about to run over him.

Quickly acting on instincts, Kyle dived away and landed roughly onto the rough pavement of the streets.

“Watch where you’re going, you fool!” The driver of the car shouted as his car speed away.

“You watch where you’re going, darn it!” Kyle shouted back, he knew that it’s impossible for that guy to hear if but he just wanted to release his anger at that guy who almost ended his life. He didn’t care if anyone heard his cursing because he knew that the one who started it was that guy. The way he drives could kill others and mostly, him himself. Deep inside, he wished that the driver got caught in an accident and dies a fiery death.

Kyle stood back up and patted off some dust from his body while receiving several glances from other pedestrian walking by. The boy then looked around for his newspaper only to find that his newspaper had fall down to a drain. Letting out a frustrated sigh, Kyle continued on his journey to his school.

What a morning to start my day… Kyle thought to himself.

School, 7.02 a.m.

Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Seri Mutiara, or shortly known as SMKSM, was a new school built not too long ago. Famous for winning countless titles and prizes in sports and academic competitions such as gymnastic, aerobic, running, basket ball, hand ball, quiz competition, poetry, leadership course, and other various competitions. This particular school has always been a role model for other delinquent-schools. But the truth is; SMKSM is also a school filled with delinquents, from gangsters to drug dealers, you name it. However, thanks to the proper management from the school and mostly, the disciplinary teachers, what was once a hell-like school was quickly turned around into a school where ‘Happiness is just a text book away’. No more, no less.

Kyle walked up to the front gate only to find that the gate had been locked up. Kyle slapped himself mentally when he realized that the key is with the chairman of the club, Gan Yang. “Great, now I’ll have to wait for Gan Yang to arrive here,” Kyle muttered to himself. No, Kyle wasn’t insane for talking to himself. In fact, that was pretty normal; he claims that it was one way to express his inner-thoughts.

He then looked around the area. Much to his luck, nobody was there. “Guess I’ll have to do this, the old way,” With that, a grin was implanted into his youthful feature and Kyle quickly jumped onto the gate and climbed over it. As he landed onto the ground, Kyle gave out a slight grunt and continued fort.

Entering the school’s yard, there was also nobody there too. It’s weird actually; usually the clerks will be at the school even during school holidays to manage the school’s files. But it saves Kyle’s breath to explain to them how he managed to get in anyway if one of the clerks would ever ask him.

Looking around some more, he spotted the canteen manager’s Honda CRV parked by the canteen. “Alright, so I’m not alone after all. Guess I’ll just wait at the canteen then. Besides, being alone for quite some time freaks me out,” At that, the boy went to the canteen and sat on a bench with his head leaning onto the table.

“I bet the guy’s will wake me up when they arrive,” Kyle muttered to himself again and closes his eyes. Then, everything went black.

________________________________________________________________________

School, ???

Kyle groan as he opened his eyes and scan around the canteen. “What the heck? The guys aren’t here yet?” He then got up and took out his cell phone to check the time and any messages that came when he was out sleep. “What the hell, 5.58 p.m.?” Kyle half shouted and walked out of the canteen. He then notices that there were plenty of miss calls that he received while he was asleep.

They were, Mom, Dad, Jian, Daniel Mak, Carmen Hor, Gan Yang, Angeline Lam, Amirul Zaki and other anonymous numbers.

“Whoa, that’s… weird. That’s the first time I’ve received so many calls from my friends and families. Better give them a call back,” With that. Kyle pressed a few buttons and the phone dialed ‘Mom’. There wasn’t any sound from the phone as there was no connection and signal.

“Damn,” He cursed and tried other numbers, it was still the same.

Things were getting weirder; Kyle noticed that his surroundings were quiet, too quiet. Usually there would be sounds from the construction site located near the school that filled the air, but now, the only sound that he could hear was his own footsteps, it was beginning to creep him out. Kyle then decided to head to the office to check whether if the clerks were in the office or not and the results were still the same; no one.

Suddenly, a low crunching sound caught Kyle’s attention to the Janitor’s stock room located behind the stairs to the staff room. Slowly, Kyle walked to the source of the sounds and then, he saw something that would probably hunt the hell out of him for the rest of his life.

It was the school’s janitor and he was feasting onto one of the school’s clerks! The smell of blood filled the air, but there was another smell too but Kyle couldn’t identify it. It smelled like gunpowder but he wasn’t sure until the empty cartridges of a bullet filling the floor proved it.

“What the hell!” Kyle shouted and covered his mouth as a response, resisting his urge to vomit. The scene was too gory for Kyle to handle.

His shouting caught the janitor’s attention as he brought his head up to reveal his horrible face. He has white milky eyes and yellow rotten teeth and blood covering his mouth and the rest of his body. There wasn’t a single trail of his hair left. His skin was pale, sickly pale!

It was a zombie! There was no mistakes about it, all its characteristics and appearance definitely matches with a zombie. Kyle could tell because he was a zombie-lover. He loves to play zombie-based games and watch zombie-based movies. He could immediately tell if there ever was one.

But what the hell was a zombie doing here? Why is it here in the first place? However, this isn’t the time to think as what was once the janitor got up and begun staggering towards Kyle with his hands stretched forward. It then let out a frustrated moan.

“Stay back! I’m warning you!” Kyle shouted and threatened to take out his weapon. He then realized that talking to a zombie would not give a result. As he recalled, zombies do not have any reasoning skills, they’re just a bag of walking flesh. With that, Kyle took out the baton from its sheath and swung it to expand the steel while he slowly backed away.

As he back away, another one of the ‘zombies’ appeared from the side and launch itself towards Kyle with a yell, threatening Kyle’s heart to stop pounding. He silently thanked his reflexes after he managed to avoid the other zombie and ran to the school’s yard to gain more space. Looking closely, the other was the school’s head assistant, Miss Sasikala.

Miss Sasikala, the school’s head assistant was an Indian at her late forties; she had a black shoulder-length curly hair. Her strictly no-joke attitude has earned herself a reputation of the strictest teachers in school. Kyle remembered that she had reprimanded him a considerable amount of times before.

“What the hell? Sasikala’s one of them too?” Kyle said as he catches his breath quickly. He couldn’t tell if he was happy or scared at the fact that one of the teachers that always reprimanded him is now a walking undead.

Then another moan caught his attention as he turned to the back only to see another zombie. This time, it was the canteen manager, the big sized Uncle Bob. There were others coming in through the back entrance too! They consisted of the construction workers. There were at least five of them! That explains why the constructions had stopped.

It was then only that Kyle realized that he was surrounded. “Hel… he…” Kyle tried to shout but wasn’t able to, the fear in him choked him. He took in a few breaths to calm himself down and swallowed the bile that was forming in his throat. He managed to shout panicky. “Help, anybody? Help, me!”

No response.

The zombies staggered closer and closer towards Kyle, moaning in harmony. Kyle knew that they were ready to tear into his flesh and eat the crap out of him if he doesn’t think of anything.

Kyle looked around and saw that the only escape way was through the front entrance, where he had come from, and the back entrance located at the far end nearby the canteen. He chose the back entrance instead of the front one because he feared that there will be more zombies out there waiting for him. The back entrance, however, had a vandalized gate that was ready to fall off at any give time.

Kyle could take this to his advantage but the former construction workers, now a bunch of zombies, were in his way. There isn’t any other way Kyle could use that doesn’t involve him getting turned into zombie food. Guess there wasn’t any other way but to force himself through the zombies.

He knew that zombies are slow creatures and are easily to be dispatched if they are alone, but they could be prove as a bigger threat when attacking in a group. His times from watching and playing zombie movies and games had served him well as Kyle had already thought of a strategy, using the zombies’ slow reflexes to his advantage. Secretly, he thanked himself for being a zombie-addict.

With that, Kyle dash towards the construction worker zombies with a battle cry and brought up his baton. He then jump to the air as he approached a lone construction worker zombie and smash its head with all his might, however, the former human only fall to the ground and it would later got back up. But that was enough for Kyle to make his escape.

The second zombie tried to launch itself towards Kyle, but he quickly reacted by sidestepping and spun around. He swung his baton to the following zombie’s side that wanted to grab him; the creature stumbled to the side, giving Kyle a route to escape.

The forth and fifth zombie tried to use the same tactic as the second zombie attempted on Kyle, but they had left a gap in between them. A big mistake! Kyle dived in the air through the gap and rolled onto the pavement. It hurts, but it’s the least Kyle would feel if any of the zombies would eventually grab hold of him.

He quickly picked himself off from the ground and turned around to see the distance between him and the zombies and fortunately, they were far enough to not posses any threats to Kyle, at least for now. Kyle then immediately head for the gate and as he had predicted, the gate had already fallen off which explains how the construction worker zombies could get through. With all his might, he ran out of the school, still couldn’t believe at what had just transpired.

Jalan Taynton View, 6.06 p.m.

Kyle walked along the deserted streets. He couldn’t believe what he was seeing. Abandoned cars littered the streets, some crashed into buildings, some of them even crashed together with the drivers and passengers still in it. A restaurant was set ablaze. Blood trails were everywhere.

The whole area was like hell, no, it IS hell. The place was also perfumed with the aroma of death.

“Man, this place is trashed,” Kyle exclaimed and took out his cell phone and scroll to the list of miss calls that he had received earlier. “Damn, they might be in the same situation like I was too. I’d better check up on them,”

Oddly, there was still no signal and reception for his cell phone. “Damn it!” Kyle cursed; he couldn’t believe that of all times, his phone chose now to fail working. “Since I can’t call them, guess I’ll just have to pay them a visit but who should I go to first?”

Kyle snapped out of his train of thoughts when a roar came from the back, Kyle spun around only to find a zombie had managed to sneak up from his back. The zombie had gotten the advantage as it outstretched its hands to grab him.
